Green: safe
Yes, dogs can eat peppers, meaning mild bell peppers. The American Kennel Club (AKC) describes bell peppers as non-toxic and a healthy snack in moderation. Bell peppers have no entry of their own in the ASPCA plant database.

Why bell peppers are fine
According to the AKC, bell peppers provide vitamins A, C, E and B6, as well as beta-carotene and lutein. It considers green, yellow, orange and red peppers equally suitable. Many dogs enjoy a crunchy piece; others leave it, and either is fine.
What to keep in mind
- Remove seeds and stem: The AKC recommends removing both before feeding to avoid upsetting the stomach.
- Keep it plain: No salt or seasonings. Peppers fried with onions or garlic are off limits, as the ASPCA says these alliums can damage red blood cells.
- Nothing hot: Do not give your dog chillies, jalapeños or other hot varieties.
- Soften them: Some dogs find the skin difficult to chew. Steaming or puréeing makes it easier.
- Start slowly: Try new foods in small pieces first.
What if your dog has eaten too much?
Eating a whole pepper at once can cause vomiting or diarrhoea, according to the AKC. Monitor your dog, offer fresh water and make the next meal smaller. Call your vet if the diarrhoea persists or your dog seems lethargic. If the peppers came from a dish with onions or garlic, ask for advice straight away.
If you suspect poisoning, contact your vet or an emergency veterinary service immediately.
